Drives put to the test
The latest generation of motor drive systems from Control Techniques are benefiting from sophisticated functional and flash test systems developed by the Peak Group.
The five biggest mistakes companies make
The Peak Group has produced a booklet explaining how to avoid the industry's most common test pitfalls.
The core control element of these systems is usually based on a 19-inch industrial rackmount PC platform or an embedded I/O controller.
This is combined with Peak's extensive experience in the test fixture area, resulting in test systems which can directly interface with the unit under test (UUT) via 'real world' interfaces and also provide for different test environments such as RFI screened fixtures, electrical safety test and flash (hi-pot) insulation test enclosures.
In terms of physical UUT interfaces, a wide range of TestMaster modules have been developed.
Stepper-motor controls are used to activate variable capacitor (trimmer) and variable resistor (pre-set potentiometer) adjustments, while mechanical actuation controlled by pneumatic cylinders or electrical solenoids can be used to operate control buttons or keypads.
Audio warning devices can be checked with microphones, with sound analysis being carried out on amplitude/frequency parameters, and visible or infrared sensors can be used for the detection of the correct colour and luminance of LEDs and incandescent or fluorescent lamps.
Vision detection systems based on video cameras allow for the inspection of LCD/LED matrix display functionality.
The existing client base for TestMaster includes manufacturers of traffic congestion warning products, smart domestic electricity meters, smoke detection system components, emergency back-up control modules for fluorescent lighting, automotive electronic system control modules, and domestic boiler electronic control modules.
