A new online tool offers the capability to ascertain whether a selected fastener type and plating complies with the European Union's RoHS restrictions on lead and other hazardous materials.

A newly available online tool from PennEngineering Fastening Technologies offers the capability to ascertain whether a selected fastener type and plating complies with the European Union's RoHS restrictions on lead and other hazardous materials.

The tool has been introduced exclusively for users to check the compliancy status for all PEM, SI and Atlas brand fastener products.

This resource can be accessed quickly from the company's homepage by clicking on "RoHS Compliance Lookup" tool under the "What's New" section.

The RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances) Directive by the European Union states that from 1st July 2006 new electrical and electronic equipment must be free of lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBBs) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs).

The new tool provides a quick, easy, and documented method to assess RoHS compliancy for all PEM self-clinching and broaching fasteners, SI threaded inserts and Atlas blind threaded inserts.

After accessing the web link, users are simply prompted to select fastener type and corresponding plating designation.

The system then displays RoHS compliance results.

The link further serves as an information source, including a section on frequently asked questions.

With thousands of active fastener part numbers, PennEngineering created this timely resource to better help customers select and develop RoHS compliant products.
