Position sensor upgrade for biscuit
machinery

APV Baker, the manufacturer of equipment for producing bread, biscuits, pizza, confectionery and snacks, has specified the Penny and Giles SLS190 sensor for its 560 model biscuit/cracker laminator

APV Baker, the Peterborough based manufacturer of equipment for producing bread, biscuits, pizza, confectionery and snacks, has specified the Penny and Giles SLS190 sensor for its latest 560 model biscuit/cracker laminator - and made significant savings on the price of the HLP190 that the company was previously using The SLS190 sealed linear sensor is fitted to the laminator to monitor the gap between two rolls, through which the sheets of biscuit material pass

The output signal provided by the sensor is fed into a signal conditioner and from there, as an analogue input, to a PLC.

The PLC drives a single-phase motor that is used to maintain the gap, which can be adjusted for different types of biscuit material being processed.

A spokesman for APV Baker says the company has been using Penny and Giles sensors for more than 15 years and has always found the units to be very reliable.

"We were happy to switch to the SLS190, which replaces the HLP190 we have been using, because it has an improved specification and offers savings compared to the old model" He says.

SLS190s also provide position feedback on APV Baker rotary cutters, which are used to cut shapes from the sheets of biscuit material. Request a free brochure from Penny + Giles ...
