In-cylinder sensors offer better
price/performance

Penny and Giles Controls has launched a completely new range of in-cylinder sensors (ICS) for use in lower cost hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders that require a simple form of analogue feedback A spokesman for the company says the ICS100 has been introduced to offer design engineers an affordable alternative for applications where non-contacting technologies may prove too expensive to use

The new ICS100 range, which offers an excellent price/performance package at a significantly lower price than the HLP100 it replaces, is designed specifically for actuators where the sensor is fitted inside the pressurised environment.

The range is ideal for high volume applications and is available in 10mm increments to suit actuator strokes up to 1100mm.

The units are suitable for use with mineral based fluids and can operate at temperatures from -30øC to +100øC and pressures up to 500 bar.

A choice of internal or external flange styles can be specified to suit clevis or tie-rod style actuators.

The sensors are supplied with a 3-core cable with ETFE insulated conductors and a polyurethane (PUR) jacket, selected for its high mechanical strength and chemical resistance, with one metre and ten metre options.

The most significant advantage of this new sensor is availability.

Any of the selectable options offered can be specified by a customer and processed through the company's new manufacturing cell in 3 working days, offering a custom-built service to suit any style or stroke of cylinder (up to 1100mm stroke).

Early indications show that ICS100 has been very well received by hydraulic cylinder manufacturers, with a North American transit lift manufacturer selecting the ICS100 for their equipment and samples already under test with an agricultural vehicle manufacturer in Italy.
