Penny + Giles is launching the SRS880, a new rugged, sealed rotary position sensor which is larger and more robust than existing sensors on the market.

Benefiting from variable angles, sensor element stability and virtually infinite resolution, the SRS880 has been designed and manufactured for position monitoring in heavy duty applications, such as steering position monitoring and hydraulic lifting systems on agricultural and utility vehicles, as well as a variety of applications in steelworks and power generating plants.

With an 88mm diameter housing and 12mm diameter shaft, the SRS880 uses established technology and innovative design features to provide maximum performance under extremes of temperature, humidity, vibration and shock.

The sensor can be mounted via three M6 threaded holes in the front face or alternatively by three M6 clearance holes through the body.

Sealed to IP68, the SRS880 is suitable for use in very wet and dirty hostile environments, and like others in the SRS range it can be manufactured and despatched within three to five days of ordering.

The SRS880 offers a range of thirty-five different models with angles from 10 degrees to 350 degrees in 10-degree increments, which allows the user to match the sensitivity of the system to the application for better data acquisition and closer control.

The sensor uses proven long-life hybrid potentiometer track technology providing high stability with virtually infinite resolution and a life in excess of 50million operations.

To enable the new sensor to be integrated into existing and new equipment easily, it is supplied with an industry standard series M12 locking male connector that will mate with most proprietary sensor cables that meet IEC 60947-5-2 requirements.

A mating straight cabled socket with 2m or 5m lead lengths can be supplied with the sensor if required.

"SRS880 has been developed in response to customer need and is the first of its kind to target the more heavy duty applications although it is not exclusive just to this market," says Mike Iles, business development manager.

"Anyone who needs a rugged rotary position sensor could be a potential customer".

All products are manufactured at Penny + Giles's ISO9001 certified facility for optimum product performance and reliability.
