A new service aims to help customers comply with the Restriction of use of Hazardous Substances Directive.

High precision manufacturer of displacement sensors and joysticks, Penny + Giles, has developed a new service to help customers comply with the Restriction of use of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) Directive that comes into effect on July 1st 2006.

Manufacturers failing to comply with the European Union (EU) legislation could face severe consequences to their business - in the worst case a ban from trading.

The company has included information and links on its website and has set up a dedicated email address.

The RoHS Directive complements the Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive, both set up by the European Commission to protect the environment from increasing levels of electrical waste in landfill sites.

The directive states that new electrical and electronic equipment sold in the EU must not contain more than certain levels of restricted material including: lead (Pb), mercury (Hg), cadmium (Cd), hexavalent chromium (CrVI), polybrominated biphenyls (PBB) and polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE).

Manufacturers continuing to supply products with high levels of restricted substances can face criminal and monetary fines as well as potential sales bans and product recalls of their product in EU countries.

Every product manufactured by Penny + Giles that falls under the scope of the RoHS Directive is intended to comply with the defined requirement while continuing to satisfy high quality product performance and availability.

Visitors to the website can also access brochures and technical data sheets for a diverse range of products including audio faders, joystick controllers and position sensors, as well as air data and flight recorders.

Up-to-date news and worldwide events attended by Penny + Giles are also listed.
