Adhesive aims for passenger interiors

Designers working on interiors for aircraft, buses, trains and recreational vehicles can now select an adhesive that offers them lower weight and higher flame retardant properties.

Designers working to produce interiors for airplanes, buses, trains and recreational vehicles will now be able to select a new adhesive that offers them lower weight and higher flame retardant properties.

The new fast setting two-part epoxy, E3300 from Bondmaster, is characterised by simple, fast application from 1 litre sticks and the two parts are cross-pigmented to eliminate mixing errors.

Its low sag on application and ease of machining result in lower rework volumes and thus higher efficiency in use as a honeycomb composite edge filler.

The higher compressive and shear strengths coupled with lower density and water absorption makes E3300 advantageous to both lightweight interior fabricators and aerospace specifiers alike.

The fast flame-out times (to UL94 and FAR/JAR 25.853(b)) are achieved without antimony thus delivering lower smoke and toxicity.

The water miscibility of E3300 makes clean up in the work place safer and cheaper.

Bondmaster expects E3300 to find applications where a combination of low final weight fabrications and high fire resistance properties is specified.

The construction of aircraft internals such as luggage boxes, galleys, partitions and cubicles is the immediate market.

The adhesive can also be applied in other transport applications such as recreational vehicles, buses, coaches, trams and trains.
