The Electromechanical Division of Parker Hannifin is to phase out manufacturing at its location in Poole, Dorset.

The Electromechanical Division of Parker Hannifin Corporation is to phase out manufacturing at its location in Poole, Dorset.

The facility employs 72 people in the design and manufacture of motion control equipment used in industrial applications.

Production will be transferred to locations in Germany and Italy by the end of September 2003.

Customer Service, Sales and Support Departments will remain at Poole in order to maintain the high level of service that customers have come to expect.

According to General Manager Nigel Allman, the decision to transfer production was made reluctantly, but it was necessary to eliminate duplicate manufacturing capacity in a time of increasing pressure to reduce costs and remain competitive in today's global business environment.

He added that the company made the announcement ahead of the actual transition to provide employees with as much notice as possible.

Parker is offering the affected employees assistance in finding alternative employment, including counselling programmes and personalised services for employees.
