Parker announces X-Mill manufacturing solution

A Parker Hannifin - Electromechanical and Drives Division product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Sep 2, 2008

Parker's Electromechanical Automation Division has announced the X-Mill as a manufacturing solution, expanding its long-travel-positioner manufacturing capabilities.

Located at the Parker Daedal facility in Irwin, PA, the X-Mill allows Parker to machine single-piece bases for positioning tables in lengths up to six metres.

Today's large flat panel display and solar industry markets demand long-stroke units with precision capabilities; the X-Mill allows Parker Daedal to shorten the lead times through in-house precision manufacturing on its long-stroke XR, LXR, Trilogy linear positioners and HPLA series.

The X-Mill received its moniker because of its long travel in the X direction: six metres (236in).

At 51,000 lbs, 40-feet long, and nine feet high, it is by far the longest conventional mill in the southwestern Pennsylvania area.

Requiring a two-foot isolation pad because of its weight, the machine was delivered from Texas to the facility in two weeks and made ready to run in another two weeks.
