Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 20, 2009

Parker Hannifin has announced the Icount PD online particle detector, a system for monitoring the condition of hydraulic oils in mobile and off-highway applications.

Compact and lightweight, the IcountPD features laser-based monitoring of system contamination trends, early warning LED or digital display indicators for low, medium and high contamination levels, and an optional moisture percentage RH LED indicator, helping to prolong fluid life and reduce machine downtime.

The icountPD on-line particle detector provides a wide range of output options.

The icountPD on-line particle detector provides a wide range of output options.

Making extensive use of environmentally friendly glass-filled nylon materials and carrying an IP66 ingress protection rating, the IcountPD online particle detector provides a wide range of output options that make it easy to interface with mobile equipment, such as construction and mining machinery and specialist vehicles for forestry and agriculture.

These options include RS232 and Canbus connectivity, 4-20mA and 0-5V analogue outputs, and relay contacts that can switch 5A at up to 24V DC.

The latest IcountPD uses laser particle detection technology to produce fast, accurate and consistent results.

The unit has a robust, compact construction, and is easy to fit in OEM or retrofit applications.

Set-up and use is quick and simple, with visual LED indicators providing power and alarm status, self- diagnostic software and full PC/PLC integration, making each unit easy to interrogate as part of higher-level vehicle control systems.

The Icount PD has a minimum sample time of three seconds and can be used at flow rates from 10-160ml/min and at line pressures from 2-420bar.
