Parker Hannifin updates the Compax3 servo drive

A Parker Hannifin - Electromechanical and Drives Division product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 2, 2009

Parker Hannifin has released the latest version of its Compax3 servo drive.

The Compax3 range comprises servo drives for single axis applications in low and medium power ranges (C3S up to 30A), devices for higher power ranges (C3H up to 155A) and servo drives for multi-axis applications (C3M).

It has been used successfully in a diverse range of industrial machine applications, from packaging machinery to automotive test equipment.

The hardware and software platforms have been improved to allow the Compax3 to be integrated into any motion control application.

The improvements include an Ethercat communications option.

Ethercat provides an open high performance real-time Ethernet fieldbus system.

It has a much higher data throughput than many other fieldbuses, allowing larger numbers of I/O points and devices to be connected and delivering seamless vertical integration into higher level Ethernet networks.

'Safe Torque Off' functionality, previously reserved for the C3M multi-axis servo drive, has been added to the single-axis versions of the Compax3 range.

Users of these products will now have the benefit of an easier-to-wire, more cost-effective system capable of providing machine operators and maintenance personnel with improved levels of safety (suitable for use in Category 3 systems).

Other changes include the addition of greater levels of diagnostic information to other communications network options and changes to the Parker Integrated Engineering Tool software used for programming.
