Laser diodes have power for materials processing

A Photonic Products product story

The Sony SLD34x-YT range of high-brightness laser diodes provide either 4W (SLD343-YT) from a 200um emitter or 6W (SLD344-YT) from a 400um emitter.

The Sony SLD34x-YT range of high-brightness laser diodes provide either 4W (SLD343-YT) from a 200um emitter or 6W (SLD344-YT) from a 400um emitter.

Wavelength selection to suit individual applications is available.

Applications for the Sony SLD34x-YT range include medical systems and material processing.

One particular laser diode, the SLD344YT-52, which provides 6W at 808+/-2.5nm, is an ideal excitation source for YAG solid state lasers.

Semiconductor laser diode excitation provides higher energy conversion ratios, smaller designs and lower noise levels when compared with conventional flash lamp systems.

Diode pumping requires devices with high power and high optical density.

The YT package is an industry-compatible, high-heat-load housing that includes internal thermal electric cooler, thermistor and monitor photodiode, and allows independent thermal and electrical design.
