The effectiveness, speed and cost saving advantages of plastic hot air staking assembly will be highlighted by Phasa Developments on stand 4130 in Hall 4 at Interplas 2002.

Engineers visiting the Phasa stand will see for themselves how hot air staking provides an ideal method of achieving permanent, low-cost and vibration resistant fastenings in thermoplastic components and assemblies.

The company's presentation will focus on live demonstrations of its versatile 20/40 series machines, as well as the all-new 'Phasa Point' single head staking unit.

This latest addition to the company's comprehensive range of standard and custom-engineered assembly equipment is designed for mounting on rotary or linear tables, simple presses and manufacturing robots.

It features a high efficiency heater module for rapid cycle times and is particularly suitable for producing permanent, vibration resistant fixings in large or bulky thermoplastic assemblies.

Like other Phasa systems, the new 'Phasa Point' staker employs the principle of controlled heating of pre-moulded pegs, ribs or collars; so that they can be re-shaped, clamped and subsequently cooled into new forms.

The process is typically used for the production of simple rivet heads, but is equally suitable for the retention of bearings, securing threaded inserts or pre-loading seals in applications across all sectors of manufacturing industry.

Other Phasa units on display at Interplas will demonstrate the system's suitability for high volume or 'safety-critical' applications, such as drive-by-wire accelerator units and passenger airbag components used by Ford, BMW, Saab and Rover.

Further motor industry products to be featured on the Phasa stand will include vehicle trim, instrument panel and pneumatic seat adjuster units, as well as interior and exterior lighting modules, heater vent, PCB retention, cup holder and key fob assembly applications.

Available from Phasa's stand throughout the exhibition will be copies of the company's recently-updated plastic assembly design guide - explaining the principles, characteristics and benefits of hot air staking in relation to other fastening methods.

This easy-to-read, 16 page A5 publication is packed with more than 40 colour illustrations and includes sections covering everything from simple riveted joints to key design parameters for producing as many as 200 fixings in a single cycle.
