Data logger takes thermocouple convertor onboard

A Pico Technology product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 21, 2004

Pico Technology has added a four-channel thermocouple convertor (the EL041) to its EnviroMon data logging system.

Pico Technology has added a four-channel thermocouple convertor (the EL041) to its EnviroMon data logging system.

The new convertor accepts up to four thermocouples, can record up to 250,000 readings and is expandable up to 40 channels.

Featuring built-in cold junction compensation (CJC), the EL041 has an effective temperature range of -270 to +1820C (using thermocouple types B, E, J, K, N, R, S and T), is accurate to 0.3% +/-0.5C and has a resolution of better than 0.2C.

It is intended for use with the EL005 EnviroMon data logger, a unit which connects directly to a PC's serial port or via an adapter to its USB port.

Alan Tong, Pico Technology's Technical Director, comments: "EnviroMon is an expandable system and up to 10 mixed convertors and alarm units can be networked to form an advanced monitoring and alarm system.

For example, EnviroMon can text a message to the user if and when any of the temperatures being monitored reaches a critical level, or, using an automatic dialler, the system can be configured to phone the user and play a pre-recorded message giving details of which alarm condition has been reached.

Furthermore, EnviroMon can export recorded data to a website.

The data can be posted as graphs in JPEG format and/or tables in CSV format.

Tong continues: "This gives users anywhere in the world the ability to view the temperatures.

This is particularly useful if the users have just received notification that an alarm condition has been reached".

EnviroMon can also be accessed via Internet protocol (IP), enabling users to view the data as they are being recorded - as well as giving them control over the monitoring system.

Tong concludes: "The addition of the EL041 four-channel thermocouple convertor to the EnviroMon family has enhanced the measuring capabilities of the data logging system.

So, in addition to being able to measure temperature (with resistive sensors), humidity, voltage and current, the system can now read thermocouple outputs to measure temperatures in the range -270 to +1820C".

The EL041 is available immediately, retails for GBP 199.00 (plus VAT) and is supplied with EnviroMon software free of charge.
