Safety systems are put to the test
Pilz has developed a structured method for inspecting the safety-critical elements of plant and machinery to enable the suitability of the safety measures to be validated.
Courses cover safety standards and products
Having sold out many of its training courses during the first half of the year, Pilz Automation Technology has now published its course timetable for July to December 2008.
While this switch is designed for use with the Pilz PNOZ elog electronic safety relays, PNOZmulti or PSS programmable safety system, the second new product, the rectangular PSEN 1.1, is suitable for applications where conventional PNOZ X range electromechanical relays are being used.
The long sensing range of the PSEN 2.2 makes it ideal for use on hinged, sliding or lifting guards where perfect alignment cannot be guaranteed - especially if there is wear in the hinges or slides.
Furthermore, the threaded body for the switch and the single-screw fixing of the actuator make installation extremely simple, and customers can also specify models that feature integral LEDs that assist with commissioning and troubleshooting.
One of the benefits of the PSEN 2.2 is that it is a noncontact device and is therefore not susceptible to wear.
Furthermore, when used in conjunction with a solid-state PNOZ elog safety relay, PNOZmulti or PSS programmable safety system, the result is a completely wear-free safety circuit that is perfect for applications where frequent guard opening, shock or vibration are an issue.
Sealed to IP67 and equipped with a socket for making electrical connections, the PSEN 2.2 is a switch that will appeal to end-users and machine builders across industries as diverse as food and drink production, pharmaceuticals, packaging machinery and general automation.
In addition, specialised versions are available for use in hazardous areas.
For customers using the PNOZ X and PNOZpower ranges of electromechanical safety relays, Pilz is launching the PSEN 1.1 switches.
Suitable for use on guards and for position monitoring in applications up to Category 4 in accordance with EN954-1, the rectangular devices feature non-contact coded magnetic technology that gives a 3mm switching distance.
Further benefits include IP67 sealing, a socket for rapid plug-in wiring, and inherent resistance to shock and vibration.
The compact design ensures that the switch can be installed unobtrusively, even when there is very little space available.
