Safety controller software gains upgrade

A new software release improves the configuration of the PNOZmulti safety controller for all safety functions in applications up to BS EN954-1 Category 4.
Still the only cost-effective software-configurable safety controller on the market for all safety functions in applications up to BS EN954-1 Category 4, the Pilz PNOZmulti now features improved configuration software.
This release adds more logic elements, an improved user interface and a facility for online programming via a serial link from a PC.
One of the most important new logic elements is a reset flip-flop that will make designing safety circuits far simpler in many cases.
Another useful new element is an event counter that can be cascaded, and the counts can be either incremental or decremental.
Although there was a timer element in version 1 of the software, it now gains extra optional functions, including delay-on and pulse.
Again, these changes enable circuit designs to be completed more efficiently.
Whereas version 1 of the configuration software required a smart card reader/writer to be used to transfer the configuration from the PC to the PNOZmulti base unit, version 2 allows the smart card to be written to directly by linking the PC to the PNOZmulti base unit with a standard RS232 serial cable.
Several enhancements have been made to the user interface, including redesigned icons and counters that show the amount of chip card memory used as well as the number of logic elements used.
In addition, version 2 of the software allows users to visualise the operation of the logic circuit by highlighting the active elements and links.
This visualisation and diagnostic facility benefits both circuit designers and commissioning engineers.
All registered users of version 1 of the configuration software will be sent a CD-ROM containing a free upgrade to version 2.
