A new driver enables the PMIopen touchscreen interface to be used directly with the PNOZmulti configurable safety controller.
Written by InduSoft for its Web Studio suite of software, the PNOZ driver enables users to view data from a PNOZmulti controller on a PMIopen device.
Data that can be read from the PNOZmulti include the I/O status, LED indicator status and error messages.
In addition, error messages can be written to the PNOZmulti and the driver can be loaded with remedy text that can be displayed in response to particular error messages received.
There is no requirement for an additional communications module, so even the simplest applications, utilising just the PNOZmulti base module, can benefit from the messaging and diagnostics made possible by the PNOZ driver.
All that is necessary is a connection to the built-in RS232 serial port.
Three models of PMIopen are available, all of which are delivered with Microsoft Windows CE 3.0 pre-installed: the PMI o215 - with a 5.7in STN display giving 256 colours; the PMI o226 - with a 10.4in TFT display giving 64K colours; and the PMI o231 - with a 12.1in TFT display giving 64K colours.
All three are compact and robust, resistant to vibration and provide protection against dust, water sprays and a wide variety of aggressive chemicals.
Furthermore, each device benefits from 64Mbyte of SDRAM and a 32Mbyte Flash memory.
PCMCIA slots enable other connections to be made, such as to CompactFlash memory cards, and the following interfaces are provided: serial ports (RS 232/485), USB, Ethernet and a PC/104 slot for fieldbus connections.
Pilz has been appointed as a reseller for InduSoft, and so customers can obtain the PNOZmulti safety controller, PMIopen touchscreen interface and driver from a single source.
