A practical and informative four-day modular training course aims to give candidates a greater understanding of the requirements of machinery safety legislation and standards.

As well as classroom sessions, there are practical exercises and examinations.

The course is designed to provide candidates with the knowledge that will help them to demonstrate a level of competency in machinery safety.

It is aimed at people who have responsibility for new or existing machinery including designers, manufacturers, maintenance engineers and engineering/project managers.

Day one of the course covers: regulations, including the management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999; structure of harmonised standards; CE marking (the Machinery Directive, EMC and Low-Voltage Directives); and BS EN60204-1 (Safety of machinery - Electrical equipment of machines - Part 1: General requirements).

The second day covers the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98), BS EN954-1 (Safety of machinery - Safety related parts of control systems Part 1: General principles for design), and practical exercises in wiring emergency stop circuits.

On the third day students are taught about machine guarding and safety devices, with practical exercises in wiring and troubleshooting guard switches, two-hand control systems and similar devices.

Risk assessment concepts and theory are presented on the fourth day, along with principles relating to temporary safety measures.

At the end of each module there is a short examination to assess the students' comprehension of the topics covered and, on successful completion of the course, delegates receive a certificate from Pilz.

All candidates are also given a comprehensive package of course documentation The machinery safety course takes place at the Pilz training facility in Corby, Northamptonshire, or at the customer's site.

The price per delegate is GBP 250 (plus VAT) per day including documentation.
