Pilz Automation Technology is running a series of one-day general courses on machinery regulations and standards for machine builders.

Pilz Automation Technology is running a series of one-day general courses on machinery regulations and standards for machine builders.

The courses are designed to equip delegates with knowledge that enables them to meet the requirements of the current relevant regulations and harmonised standards for the design of new machinery said Pilz.

One of the key topics covered is the legal obligations for machine builders and suppliers (including those who supply machinery to others within their own organisation).

Those obligations must be clearly understood before a machine design can commence.

The course also explains the three main standards that relate to machinery design and manufacture, namely: BS EN ISO 12100 (Safety of machinery, Basic concepts, general principles for design) part one (Basic terminology, methodology) and part 2 (Technical principles); BS EN (IEC) 60204-1 (Safety of machinery, Electrical equipment of machines, General requirements); and BS EN 954-1 (Safety of machinery, Safety related parts of control systems, General principles for design).

Note that BS EN ISO 12100 recently superseded and replaced BS EN 292 parts one and two.

Furthermore, there are several other important standards for machine builders to be aware of, and they are also considered within the course.

A key requirement for machine safety is a risk assessment, and the course includes a session that gives delegates an understanding of how to perform a basic risk assessment in compliance with the requirements of BS EN 1050 (Safety of machinery, Principles for risk assessment).

Each course runs from 09:00 to 16:30 at the Pilz training facilities in Corby, Northamptonshire (UK), although additional courses can also be arranged at machine builders' premises if required.

Alternatively, companies can reserve all of the places on any of the published dates, provided there are no existing bookings for the preferred day.

A package of course documentation is provided for each delegate attending the course, together with a Pilz certificate of attendance.

A buffet lunch and light refreshments are included in the cost of the course.

Dates this year for the one-day machine builders course are April 6, May 24, June 21, July 12, August 9, September 13, October 11 and November 8 (courses have already been run in January, February and March).
