Safety systems are put to the test
Pilz has developed a structured method for inspecting the safety-critical elements of plant and machinery to enable the suitability of the safety measures to be validated.
Courses cover safety standards and products
Having sold out many of its training courses during the first half of the year, Pilz Automation Technology has now published its course timetable for July to December 2008.
Running to 174 pages, the application manual covers all of the most common types of application, such as emergency stops, feedback loops (for monitoring contacts), safety gates, sensors, actuators, enabling switches and two-hand controls.
For most of these, alternative applications are described for systems complying with the requirements of EN954-1 Category 2 and 4 (Categories 1 and 3 can also be catered for very easily).
Within the above application types, "sensors" covers AOPD (active optoelectronic protection device) monitoring, AOPD muting monitoring, light guards, area scanners and safety mats.
Actuator applications include specialist tasks such as driving and monitoring press safety valves, monitoring the operating range of robots and similar automation, and frequency converters (monitoring the two main contactors that separate the frequency converter from the drive for category 1 stops).
For each application, the manual provides a description of the safety functions, an explanation of how compliance with the requirements of the appropriate EN954-1 category is achieved, a circuit diagram, timing diagram and programming notes.
In addition, all of the relevant Pilz part numbers are listed for the hardware and software function blocks.
The PSS and SafetyBus p application manual is a "must have" document for anyone contemplating using a programmable safety system and/or a SafetyBus p safe fieldbus.
