A one-day training course explains the latest machinery safety standards ISO13849-1 and BS EN62061.
A new one-day training course is being launched by Pilz Automation technology for those who need to learn about ISO13849-1 and BS EN62061.
These machinery safety standards are crucial for those designing new machinery or modifying existing machinery.
ISO13849-1 (Safety of machinery, Safety related parts of control systems, General principles for design) will very soon replace BS EN954-1 (Safety of machinery, Safety related parts of control systems, General principles for design), which is one of the mainstays of machinery-safety-related control system design.
Although the titles may be similar, the approaches are very different, with the new standard calling for more rigorous, quantitative, risk-based assessments than is necessary for compliance with the requirements of BS EN954-1.
An emphasis on functional safety is also apparent in BS EN 62061.
This standard (previously available as IEC62061) was harmonised to the Machinery Directive in January 2006, which implies a subtle but important shift in its status.
BS EN62061 (Safety of machinery, functional safety of safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic control systems) is a machinery-specific daughter standard to BS EN61508 (Functional safety of electrical/electronic/programmable electronic safety-related control systems).
Pilz has therefore developed a one-day training course that covers both ISO13849-1 and BS EN62061.
It is suitable for designers, engineering managers and others involved in the design, specification or selection of safety-related control systems for machinery, whether they are working on new projects or modifications to existing machinery.
One of the most important concepts is that of a Safety Integrity Level (SIL), so this is covered in depth during the course, with worked examples to show how component reliability data is used to calculate the SIL.
This course is believed to be unique in its coverage of these two important machinery safety standards.
It has been developed by Pilz Automation technology, a recognised City and Guilds Training centre, to extremely high standards.
Courses can either be run at the Pilz training facilities in Corby, Northamptonshire, or at customers' premises.
