Frame grabbers upgrade to PCI Express

A Stemmer Imaging product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team May 9, 2005

Firstsight Vision can now supply one of the first frame grabbers on the market to support the PCI Express standard.

The bus architecture of PCs is undergoing the biggest change since the PCIbus ousted the original ISA PC-AT bus in the early 1990s.

In recent years we have seen the introduction of the AGP bus for high speed graphics, and the PCIbus has doubled its clock speed and expanded to 64bits to create the PCI64 bus only to double is speed again to PCI-X.

In 2005, more and more PCs are offering the new PCI Express standard which is planned to replace the AGP, PCI and PCI-64 bus formats probably leaving PCI X the domain of the highest performance servers.

Firstsight Vision can now supply one of the first frame grabbers on the market to support the PCI Express standard.

Coreco Imaging's X-64 iPro family of advanced frame grabbers are based on the industry leading "trigger to image reliability" framework and beginning in the first quarter of 2005, this technology will be available in PCI Express bus format, with the other X64 products rolling out over the coming months.

The X64 iPro Express can be configured to provide either two independent base CameraLink inputs or a single medium configuration input in a single X4 PCI Express slot.

Inbuilt preprocessing ships as standard with configurable Bayer conversion and flat-field correction among the options.

Coreco's iPro technology is compatible with both line scan and area scan cameras and offers system level functionality not found in many frame grabbers, such as encoder based triggering and reject I/O control removing the need for additional I/O cards.
