A codec from Cineform and Streampix 3 software from Norpix, allows users to record images directly to a laptop disk drive or USB memory stick connected to the laptop in real time.

Firstsight Vision has released a low-cost alternative for high-speed imaging, for use with cameras that operate at a variable frame rate but do not have their own onboard memory.

Using a codec from Cineform in conjunction with Streampix 3 software from Norpix, it is possible to record images directly to a laptop disk drive or USB memory stick connected to the laptop in real time, with a choice of resolution and speed.

High-speed applications are found throughout the manufacturing industry, where users need to study fast-moving objects without motion blur.

The technology allows users to assess the events occurring during explosive phenomena such as automobile airbag deployment, troubleshooting fast moving machinery or making measurements on products on high-speed assembly lines.

Typical pixel processing is up to 90Mpixel/s on a dual-core 2.4GHz machine.

Simultaneous direct recording to disc from two HDTV cameras is possible using StreamPix 4 with a Quad Core desktop computer and the CineForm codec.
