Zoom microscope keeps flash under
control

Precision Valve of Peterborough uses a Zoom microscope from Prior Scientific for the test and inspection of its valve systems.

Precision Valve of Peterborough uses a Zoom microscope from Prior Scientific for the test and inspection of its valve systems The systems are supplied with a measurement graticule, video camera and monitor and are mounted on a microscope base complete with x-y table with digital micrometers

The valve system on an aerosol spray can is fundamental to the success of the aerosol's delivery system, designed and manufactured as it is to supply a fine mist in deodorants or foam in shaving cream.

The manufacture of these systems has a unique position within the injection moulding industry in producing high quality, high volume mouldings.

If a low quality delivery system is employed then the results will be poor delivery performance and leakage of the product contained in the aerosol.

The most important criteria when choosing a system was that it should be a noncontact measuring system used to quantify the amount of 'flash' on the valve components.

'Flash' is the surplus plastic that will be formed in the interface between the moulds as a result of wear, incorrect temperature and pressure.

The 'flash' is caused by excessive use of raw material and can give poor seating of valves with the resulting loss of product.

The Zoom system is simple to use with the advantage of fast accurate data generation.

Another advantage of this system is that the video image can be seen by many people, used as a training aid and for group discussions on product quality.

Similarly, the zoom mechanism is also an essential element, as the sample size is diverse and can range from small spray nozzles to caps on the spray cans. Request a free brochure from Prior Scientific ...
