The new Quint 2 range of power supplies from Phoenix Contact has been developed specifically to meet the needs of control and automation applications.

The new Quint 2 range of power supplies from Phoenix Contact has been developed specifically to meet the needs of control and automation applications, where reliability, even under adverse operating conditions, is an essential requirement.

Key features of the new units include a mean time between failures (MTBF) rating of 500kh - equivalent to over 55 years - and a 50% power reserve, which ensures dependable operation, even with difficult loads.

In addition, Quint 2 power supplies have fully filtered outputs, with ripple of less than 100mV under all conditions, which make them suitable for use with even the most sensitive equipment.

They also offer a minimum output hold-up time of 20ms, ensuring that loads continue to receive power during momentary mains supply interruptions.

All units in the range are equipped with a self-monitoring feature, which comprises a green LED, together with active and passive hardwired outputs.

If the output voltage falls below 90% of the setting, the LED illumination changes from steady to flashing, and the outputs change state, allowing a signal to be sent, for example, to the control system, so that a suitable response can be initiated.

Quint 2 power supplies are available in single-phase versions with outputs from 2.5 to 20A, and in three-phase versions with outputs from 5 to 40A.

All types have wide-range inputs, allowing them to be connected to virtually any standard mains supply without the need for adjustment, and three-phase types will continue to operate at full capacity, even if one phase of the mains supply fails.

Outputs, which are fully protected against overload and short circuits, are user-adjustable from 22.8 to 28.5V, providing a convenient method of compensating for cable voltage drops.

Power supplies in the Quint 2 range feature compact construction, which saves valuable control panel space, and they can be mounted on standard DIN-rail.

They are suitable for operation at full output in ambient temperatures of up to 60C, and can be used at up to 70C with only minor derating.

The high efficiency of the units - in excess of 88% for all types - keeps heat generation and, therefore, panel temperature rise, to a minimum.

Phoenix Contact's innovative Quint 2 power supplies are fully approved to major US and European standards, allowing them to be used anywhere in the world.

They also carry GL approval, making them an ideal choice for offshore applications.
