A new position detection terminal can be used to optimise motion sequences, thus increasing the economic efficiency of machines and installations The IB IL Impulse IN extends the range of position detection devices for the Inline automation system and enables more efficient implementation of movement controls

The new Inline terminal enables the recording of positions (lengths) using length-measuring systems that work contact-free according to the magnetostrictive measuring process - using so-called micro-impulse/Temposonic transducers.

They deliver the absolute position of a locator moving in the measuring system within a measuring range of up to 4m.

The length-measuring system is equipped with a digital impulse or P-interface.

On being triggered by an impulse from the terminal, it issues the position information by sending an echo with a run-time proportional to the distance of the magnet to the start of the system.

Based on this information, the terminal, with the help of the preset waveguide speed, calculates the absolute position with a resolution of up to 5um.

A further advantage of the terminal lies in the speed and chronological synchronisation with which the position values are collected from the length-measuring system.

These factors improve the accuracy of the motion sequences and can further increase the performance of the machines.
