The Process Industries Centre for Manufacturing Excellence, PICME, has appointed Steve Davies as Manufacturing Adviser - Plastics.

Davies is well known in the UK plastics sector having worked there for over 30 years.

He was previously Managing Director of injection moulding machinery supplier Engel UK and has also held management positions with Battenfeld and GKN Sankey Plastics.

His primary role will now be to boost PICME's manufacturing improvement activities in the plastics processing sector.

Davies says: "I am very pleased to join the PICME team and to be involved in helping to improve the competitiveness of UK manufacturers.

In a very short time PICME has demonstrated significant cost savings for clients adopting PICME manufacturing improvement methods.

My role within the PICME team will be to increase the awareness of the benefits from the PICME programme within plastics processing.

Cost savings and a commitment to continuous improvement will enable companies to more easily progress with investments needed for future competitiveness".

PICME methods and its client stories will be on show at the Cranfield Management Development Centre on Tuesday 5th June 2003, when the organisation holds its second annual conference.

Last year's event was a sell-out and early booking is advised for the 100 delegate places on offer.

This year's conference is entitled "Manufacturing Fitness - making it happen and sustaining the gains", and the PICME conference will once again open up key elements and lessons in process manufacturing improvement as developed by PICME and its key clients over the past twelve months.

PICME Chief Executive Mark Lewis hopes that the conference will encourage process manufacturers to take advantage of the PICME funding window.

"We are primarily appealing to those process managers and directors who are tasked with reducing costs and shortening lead times while increasing flexibility and output.

We are centrally funded to help companies realise those aims.

Anyone in the process sector with a remit for lean manufacturing stands to gain from joining us on 5th June".
