With just 30 places remaining, the Process Industries Centre for Manufacturing Excellence, PICME, reports rapid take up of places for its 5th June conference at Cranfield School of Management.

With just 30 places remaining, the Process Industries Centre for Manufacturing Excellence, PICME, reports rapid take up of places for its 5th June conference at Cranfield School of Management.

Continuing strong support from Lord Sainsbury, DTI Minister, has helped the PICME cause.

At the British Plastics Federation conference last month Sainsbury singled out the work of PICME and the recent DTI extension of its funding and lifespan.

Sainsbury noted that PICME's purpose "is to offer hands-on, practical help to companies in this sector to help realise the opportunities for lean manufacturing.

I strongly recommend it to you.

Those companies that have been through its processes can testify to the real and measurable benefit it has had on their bottom line.

I want to see many more companies from the plastics sector coming forward to take advantage of this service".

PICME methods and its client stories will be on show at the Cranfield Management Development Centre on Thursday 5th June 2003 when the organisation holds its second annual conference.

Last year's event was a sellout and prompt booking is now advised for the thirty remaining places on offer.

Lord Sainsbury once again will make the keynote speech.

This year's conference is entitled "Manufacturing fitness - making it happen and sustaining the gains", and the PICME conference will once again open up key elements and lessons in process manufacturing improvement as developed by PICME and its key clients over the past 12 months.

PICME chief executive Mark Lewis hopes that the 5th June conference will encourage process manufacturers to take advantage of the PICME funding window.

"We are primarily appealing to those process managers and directors who are tasked with reducing costs and shortening lead times while increasing flexibility and output.

We are centrally funded to help companies realise those aims.

Anyone in the process sector with a remit for lean manufacturing stands to gain from joining us on 5th June".
