Pre-cleaners improve filter life

A Parker Hannifin - Filter Division product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 29, 2007

Parker Hannifin's AF series of pre-cleaners can remove up to 90% of impurities from the air intake before it enters the air filter assembly.

The Racor Division of Parker Hannifin has launched a new range of pre-cleaner and combined pre-cleaner/filter assemblies, developed to improve the service life of air filters, engines and turbo chargers considerably, reducing maintenance costs and downtime as a result.

The heavy duty units in the AF series are able to achieve this by removing up to 90% of impurities from the air intake before it enters the air filter assembly.

The AF pre-cleaners are designed to be connected to, or mounted on, any air filter intake of a petrol or diesel air cleaner, and can be installed simply and quickly in place of the rain cap, dust bowl or aspirated pre-cleaner.

Air enters the system through the pre-screen, and drives the rotor, which forces the heaviest impurities, such as dust, dirt and insects, to the outside of the unit.

The particles are removed through discharge ports leaving purified air to flow to the filters downstream, leading to up to 10 times longer life for the filter elements.

Where the AF pre-cleaners also incorporate a filter assembly, two elements are supplied for the most effective removal of contaminants.

The primary element consists of Ahlstrom Paper media, which gives the filter an extremely high dust holding capacity, and steel end caps for robust and reliable operation.

The secondary, or safety, element features Ahlstrom Paper or cotton media and prevents dust migrating downstream to the engine during servicing.

The AF series includes the AFHP heavy-duty on-highway pre-cleaners for mobile equipment applications, the AFAP heavy-duty off-highway and industrial air pre-cleaners for agriculture, construction and stationary applications, the AFSF heavy-duty standard air filters for on and off-highway and stationary applications, and the AFCS heavy-duty combination dynamic pre-cleaner and air filters for off-highway and industrial applications and on-highway under hood applications.

The AF series is compatible with air intake systems up to 142m3/min and features robust steel construction for effective operation in particularly aggressive environments.
