PLM Benefits Workshop to be held at Heathrow from 21st to 22nd March as part of a series of international workshops open to members and non-members of the PLMIG.

The Product Lifecycle Management Interest Group (PLMIG) has announced a PLM Benefits Workshop to be held at Stockley Park, Heathrow, from 21st to 22nd March 2006.

The workshop is part of a series of international workshops to be hosted by founder members of the PLM Benefits Reference Model (BRM) Project, and is open to members and non-members of the PLMIG.

The objectives of the workshop are: to bring together PLM practitioners and enable them to examine and evaluate their experiences in defining and measuring PLM benefits; to work through the whole scope of what an industry-standard BRM should be; and to generate all the draft material to create a workshop view of a PLM benefits framework.

The workshop will let participants learn more about the PLM BRM Project, learn about the current situation of PLM benefits, understand the potential benefits of PLM, find out how other companies address the issues of PLM benefits, participate in the industry-wide initiative addressing PLM benefits, and make sure the project is aware of their specific issues.

The workshop will deliver an outline framework for defining PLM benefits in real businesses.

The results can be used by the participants in their organisations, and will form part of the overall launch phase results.

Participants will receive a written summary document after the workshop, and compiled information about the results of the other workshops in the series.

The objective of the BRM Project is to develop an industry-agreed, standard PLM benefits model to help everyone involved move forward faster.

The model will let manufacturing companies implement PLM faster, and will reduce sales cycles for vendors of PLM products and services.

The project will help everyone involved in PLM - users, product vendors, service providers and academics.

The model will save time when identifying the benefits in each new PLM situation, make it easier to communicate about PLM, and provide a rigorous basis for management decisions about investments.

A group of founder members, representing the different constituencies in the world of PLM, is being assembled to drive forward this international, collaborative project.

In the launch phase, the PLMIG is jointly organising a series of two-day workshops with the founder members to discuss the current situation of PLM benefits, to discuss experience with PLM benefits, to enable a wide-ranging discussion of the needs for the PLM BRM, and to prepare the next steps of the BRM Project.

The London workshop is being organised with the assistance of UGS.
