Elliptical pulleys solve elliptical gear problems

A Precision Motion (Cofil) product story

To complement the hugely successful range of elliptical gears which are available from an extensive standard range by Precision Motion (Cofil), a new range of elliptical pulleys has been developed.

As with the gears, elliptical pulleys are used by manufacturers of automatic machines in all applications where variable speed rotary motion is required from a constant speed input.

Typical applications include machines in the printing and textile industry where a controlled in-feed is required with a rapid return.

Previously, in applications with a long distance between shaft centres, the incorporation of elliptical gears was difficult due to the physical size of the gears and as a result, the cost.

By using Elliptical Pulleys these problems no longer apply, with the added benefit of reduced noise.

Also due to the geometry of the driven pulley, a tensioner is not required to keep the timing belt taut.

Elliptical pulleys can be manufactured in a large range of materials, including aluminium, steel, bronze and stainless steel and our technical department is pleased to collaborate with customers to design and manufacture non-standard pulleys for special applications.
