Research Associate from Manchester University brought in to strengthen transducer development team at non-destructive testing company.

Phoenix Inspection Systems has strengthened its transducer development team with the appointment of Chris Gregory from Manchester University.

Gregory spent seven years as a Research Associate at the university and his expertise will let Phoenix introduce advanced technologies into its product range and diversify into other areas.

He studied microbiology at Sheffield University and gained an MSc in biosensors at Manchester University and a PhD in microengineering at Umist in Manchester before embarking on a research career within Umist.

During his time there, he worked on a wide variety of sensor projects, including the development of electronic noses, polymer phased array transducers and projects for Phoenix on piezocomposite transducers and phased array technology.

As Ultrasonic Development Engineer with Phoenix, based at its Warrington headquarters, he is working on projects including medical and high temperature probes.

Phoenix Managing Director Karl Quirk said: "Gregory's academic expertise, which includes a knowledge of advanced design modelling techniques, will bring additional tools to our development team".

"His experience in the medical field will help us introduce the latest technologies to our range and maintain our position at the cutting edge of NDT, while at the same time diversifying into other areas".
