A new resistance temperature detector (RTD) specifically designed for measuring temperatures down to -196C is now available from Platinum Sensors.

A new resistance temperature detector (RTD) specifically designed for measuring temperatures down to -196C is now available from Platinum Sensors.

Comprising a laser trimmed, platinum thin-film resistor on a ceramic substrate, this is a Pt100 device which measures only 3.9 x 1.5mm.

The new device, designated the C416, is less expensive than traditional wirewound detectors but still offers the highest levels of measurement accuracy and long-term stability.

It has extremely fast response times and is highly resistant to vibration and shock.

Standard connection wires are 10mm-long AuPd alloy, although a range of extension wires can be added if required.

The full operating temperature range is -196 to +500C, and the measurement tolerance meets the class B standard of DIN EN60751.
