Detectors keep watch over motor stator heating

A new range of low-cost stator-winding RTDs (resistance temperature detectors) is now available from Platinum Sensors.

These detectors are designed to fit between the stator windings of electric motors or generators where they provide an early warning of temperature rises which could lead to overheating of the surrounding insulation and catastrophic machine failure.

Designated the 5000 V STAT, the new detectors comprise a Pt 100 temperature sensor embedded into an epoxy and fibre composite body which measures only 6.8 x 2.0mm.

Three standard lengths from 50 to 150mm are available, all of which are supplied with 5m of PTFE insulated cable in three-wire connection.

Customised sensor lengths and cable configurations are available for high volume users.

Operating temperature range is -40 to +220C and the measurement tolerance meets the class B standard of DIN EN60751.

Insulation resistance is greater than 1000Mohm at 500V and the dielectric strength exceeds 5000V at 50Hz.

ATEX EExi versions certified for use in hazardous areas are also available.
