Powertec Industrial Motors has received an order for the first prototype of a 100 hp brushless DC motor and drive for a high-volume compressor to provide for the dispersement of fire-retardant chemicals from C-130 and similar aircraft.

The system stays on the aircraft and allows the aircraft to land and reload at small landing sites near the fire site, rather than be forced to return to a facility with the equipment available.

The requirements for the drive/motor system were that it be able to operate from the aircraft electrical bus, therefore that it be efficient, that it be small, and that it be light, finally reliable.

The Powertec Brushless motor is the lightest 100 hp motor readily available and the efficient Flexmax brushless drive controller has all the requirements to run directly from the aircraft bus in a reliable, lightweight package.
