Powertec brushless motors have been used to power a heavier than air dirigible (blimp) as an unmanned vehicle up to the stratosphere and back, repeating the trip as needed.

The blimp is being used in Japan's Stratospheric Platform Project and this latest application of the motors follows similar uses for the same motors in Korea and by NASA-Glenn Research Centre in the USA.

Powertec claimed that its brushless motors have a very high power to weight and volume ratio making that makes them suitable for such applications.
