Poeton Industries has entered into a joint venture with York Towbars to powder coat York's total output of towbars in a new facility at Poeton's Southampton plant.

The automated powder coating plant, which has been jointly funded by the two companies, will guarantee York an output of in excess of 50 towbars an hour, allowing the company to offer its customers a two-day delivery - even on special orders.

York Towbars managing director Ian Macdonald says that convenience (the company is also based in Southampton, adjacent to the Poeton works) and the reassurance of having its towbars coated by a company that specialises in surface treatments for the aerospace, automotive and industrial markets, was the motivation for the joint venture.

Commenting for Poeton Industries, Barrie Poeton says research indicates that black is the predominant colour for powder coating, which means that the additional capacity will enable the facility to offer almost 'instant' powder coating in black, with other colours available subject to normal volume and turnaround considerations.

He adds that a second powder-coating module is planned for the near future, specifically to meet the demand for other colours and smaller quantities.
