Poeton Aptec has supplied its Apticote Ceramic 2000 cylinder bore coating to Perfect Bore.

Poeton Aptec has supplied its Apticote Ceramic 2000 cylinder bore coating to Perfect Bore, which works closely with the Mercedes engine builders that manufacture the Formula One engines for the successful Mercedes Maclaren racing team.

One of these engines powers the car driven by David Coultard, which won the recent Monaco Grand Prix and came second in Montreal.

Apticote Ceramic 2000 is a metal matrix coating system specifically developed for high performance automotive applications such as engine block cylinder bores and engine liners.

Spinoffs from this technology are now being used in Nascar, NHRA, Touring Car and Historic Car restoration programmes, in both alloy and cast iron crankcases, from single cylinder to V12 applications.

Other successful teams specifying the coating are competing in the World Sidecar Championships, the National Karting Championships, the British Youth Motorcross Championships and the World Hovercraft Championships.
