The Cardiff factory of surface coating specialist Poeton Industries has doubled its nondestructive testing (NDT) capacity and is now offering the service to automotive and general engineering companies.

Says Director Barrie Poeton: "Whilst we have traditionally provided NDT services for customers in the aerospace industry to complement our wide range of surface coatings, the expanded facility allows us to offer the same comprehensive service to a much wider range of engineering disciplines".

He adds that automotive repair shops, subcontract manufacturers and general machining companies could all benefit from the service, to help them detect what the eye cannot see! He quotes typical applications such as batch testing of automotive and other components, flaw detection prior to re-engineering, checking for machine/grinding abuse, potentially cracked engine blocks, hardness testing, crack testing etc.

The NDT facility, which offers magnetic flaw detection, electrostatic dye penetration testing, etch inspection and hardness and conductivity testing, employs four engineers qualified to Level 2 and MAS410E standard.
