Track thousands of PAT records from one screen

A PowerPlug UK product story

Keeping accurate and up-to-date PAT records of electrical appliances within a workplace is an essential element of an effective maintenance programme, says Alan Preen, managing director of PowerPlug.

Keeping accurate and up-to-date PAT records of electrical appliances within a workplace is an essential element of an effective maintenance programme, says Alan Preen managing director of PowerPlug UK.

"If you do not know where the equipment is, if you have no record of it, the history of faults found etc, then you cannot schedule the correct maintenance testing programme," he maintains.

"It is essential - in order to establish certification compliance under the Electricity at Work Regulation 1989 (EAWR) - that appliances are maintained and tested according to their pattern of use, history of inspections/tests and correct frequency of inspection and testing".

PowerPlug UK clients manage their electrical assets as part of their PAT maintenance programme with a new powerful organisational desktop tool.

Known as Power2View, it has a search and filter capable of tracking all asset records quickly and easily.

One simple screen sorts the appliances according to selected criteria.

For example: location, description, asset number, pass/flaw/fail status or next test date.

Information is presently being extracted from PowerPlug's seven databases and some 1.75million appliance records.

Power2View is particularly useful for facilities managers of multi-site locations because it means that records of thousands of appliances can be managed from one central location at the touch of a button and from just one screen.

"The legal requirement is that equipment should be inspected and tested in accordance with use, type of equipment and faults found, and one of the benefits of managing so much data in a central location is that patterns of defects, or incidents of unnecessary testing, can be easily identified," says Alan.

"This enables duty holders to ensure that safety is maintained while costs are safely controlled and waste is eliminated".
