Powdermatrix supports four industrial Case awards in 2005 covering developments in advanced materials and the pharmaceutical sector.

Powdermatrix supported four more industrial Case awards in 2005 covering developments in advanced materials and the pharmaceutical sector.

Funded jointly by companies and the Engineering and Physical Science Research Council (EPSRC), Case studentships let industry take the lead in defining projects that will be of direct benefit to their company and in selecting an academic partner.

From the academic perspective, they enable the university to work closely with an industrial partner to develop and then transfer new technologies that can help directly with making money.

The students involved in the projects, who are jointly supervised by the academic and industrial partners, also receive training under the scheme.

Powdermatrix supports 12 industrial Case projects at universities throughout Britain.

The selected projects represent a mixture of established Powdermatrix partners and newcomers, building on existing relationships and broadening the network to draw in more capabilities.

The projects for 2005-06 are: Multiscale Modelling of Gas Atomisation in Production of Metal Powders; Micro-particulate Powders for the Delivery of Protein Based Drugs; Toolkit for Air-Induced Segregation in Powder Handling; and Flow for Compaction Processes.
