Studies identify materials growth areas

A Powdermatrix product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Dec 20, 2005

Recent studies by Powdermatrix identify issues essential for the growth of important materials sectors.

Recent studies by Powdermatrix have identified issues essential for the growth of important materials sectors.

Developed through a series of consultation activities with Powdermatrix members and organisations in their supply chain, four technology roadmaps identify the problems and research priorities for advanced ceramics, hard metals, magnetics and powder metals.

The studies show there is a strong demand for coordinated actions that will help grow the sectors.

This growth can be achieved through diversification into new products and markets or through improved manufacturing capability.

Additionally, the sectors have common interests and would benefit from working together.

Stuart MacLachlan of Powdermatrix said: "The findings have already stimulated initiatives from Powdermatrix such as the concerted actions on magnets and manufacturing with titanium powder and we hope they will provide the focus for further initiatives in process and product innovation, and market analysis in relevant sectors".

Interactive sessions at the Powdermatrix Annual Review Meeting in February 2005 produced a further series of actions based on the recommendations.
