Visitors to the Vanbrugh Health Centre in Greenwich should have more of a warm glow about them, thanks to boiler manufacturer Potterton Commercial.

The surgery, in South East London, has installed 4 Potterton skid mounted Slimline Spacesaver 2000 boilers, with the aim of cutting annual heating costs.

But cost was not the only reason for choosing Potterton.

With a busy flow of patients throughout the year and a constant need to keep an operational heating system, it was essential to provide an installation with the minimum amount of disruption.

The solution offered was a fully packaged, skid mounted boiler system, supplied pre-piped, pre-insulated, pre-wired and only requiring fine tuning on site for almost immediate use on delivery.

"Each unit undergoes a rigorous testing and pre-commissioning procedure before delivery," says Nigel Stokes, Potterton Commercial's technical manager.

"This ensures that we can not only offer our customers cost effective solutions, but also reassurance that quality and high standards of service and engineering excellence are maintained." In addition, lack of space in the Health Centre's cramped boiler room meant that the Slimline Spacesaver proved to be an ideal choice.

The cast iron boiler is just 490mm wide for a single application and less than 1.9m for a bank of four 70kW units making it the most economical on storage room of any commercial boiler available in the British marketplace.

The boilers will provide heating and hot water for the Health Centre's main surgery, as well as its appointment rooms, administration department and reception areas.

Chris Martin of Bailey Associates specified the Potterton products.

He said: "With the nature of the client's business, finding a truly cost effective and time saving solution to their heating problem was the key issue.

The Slimline 2000 skid mounted package is an excellent example of how advanced technology can be manufactured, assembled and commissioned pre-delivery.

The reliability of the product was also an important factor in the decision - a health centre must be one of the very last places where people should be sitting in the cold!" The Slimline 2000 is one of a number of standard solutions designed by Potterton and its supply chain to meet the expectations of the Egan report.

The report calls for 20% improvement in predictability; a 20% reduction in accidents and defects; a 10% reduction in time taken on projects and a 10% reduction in costs, as well as a 10% improvement in productivity.

A Potterton Commercial Slimline 2000 system can satisfy all elements of Egan's re-thinking construction.

The package is covered by a 24-month warranty covering parts and labour.

A comprehensive maintenance service is available at six month or twelve month intervals.

Service packages can also be tailored to meet specific requirements.
