The latest sensor from Pepperl+Fuchs could soon be arriving at a railway station near you.
Customer information systems capable of giving accurate, audible and visual information to passengers are being introduced by both underground and overground train operators.
Pepperl+Fuchs' Train Mass Detector (TMD) enables these systems to detect the arrival, presence and departure of trains as they progress on their route.
The ultrasonic TMD device carries a certificate of acceptance from Railtrack (Certificate number PA05/1375).
The sensor has a range of 6000mm and the operating window and output functions can be programmed by means of a simple to operate "teach in" facility.
Should two sensors be required to operate in close proximity to each other, mutual interference can be suppressed by the use of either internal or external synchronisation.
Supplied in a 30mm diameter high-grade stainless-steel housing, the sensor will operate on a supply voltage of 10 to 30V DC.
If required, the sensor can be supplied with a control unit which will operate from an AC supply and provide DC supply for the sensor.
The control unit can also use the transistorised switched output from the sensor to operate a relay and this can be used to give an alternative interface to the operator's system.
An enclosure for the sensor is also available to provide easy mounting and additional weather protection.
The Train Mass Detector is one of a complete range of ultrasonic devices available from Pepperl+Fuchs.
