A new absolute linear positioning system is capable of measuring up to 327m with an accuracy of 0.8mm at speeds up to 12.5m/s.

Pepperl + Fuchs has launched a new absolute linear positioning system capable of measuring up to 327m with an accuracy of 0.8mm at speeds up to 12.5m/s.

The WCS system comprises a fixed coded rail available in either plastic laminate or stainless steel for harsher environments.

A U-shaped optical reader is used to read the code rail and a choice of interfaces including Profibus, Interbus, DeviceNet, CANopen, SSI and parallel are available.

The system is ideal for positioning of gantry cranes, overhead conveyor systems, high bay warehouse systems, lifts and elevators and AGVs.

The WCS design has the ability to cope with demanding applications including: breaks in the code rail (eg change of aisle, switch points); applications with curved and circular runways; and use of several vehicles behind one another.

Accurate, robust and flexible, the WCS system is the ideal solution for positional measurement for materials handling.
