Michael Townsend is the new President of Polytec, the provider of precision laser-based measurement systems in North America.

Prior to this appointment, Townsend was President and CEO of Dover Instrument Corp, a Massachusetts company specialising in precision motion systems for semiconductor and disk drive manufacturing equipment from 1999 through 2002.

He also served as Vice President of Sales and Marketing at the same company prior to becoming the President and CEO.

Former experience includes various engineering, sales and marketing positions at Zygo Corp, Carl Zeiss and Keyence Corp.

He received his bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering and his masters in business administration from the University of Connecticut.

Townsend joins Polytec to continue the rapid expansion of the company's business in North America.

He comments: "The first strategic step taken since I've been on board with Polytec has been to complete the reorganisation and separation of Polytec and PI, so that both companies can focus on their distinct market segments".

He adds: "It's my pleasure to work with the extraordinary, worldwide team of professionals who have made Polytec the recognised leader in precision scanning and single-point laser vibrometers.".
