A new, optional control system to give fieldbus compatibility has been introduced for the gamma/L solenoid-driven precision dosing pump from ProMinent Fluid Controls (UK) Ltd.

ProMinent has chosen Profibus for its fieldbus system as being one of the most popular Ethernet protocols currently being implemented in factory environments.

The new profibus connector replaces the conventional parallel 24 volt signal wires and the analogue 4-20 mA technology with a serial digital bus system.

It allows the pump to be connected to a central master controller via a single 2-wire cable.

It also supports use in explosive environments and in safety applications.

ProMinent's Managing Director, Andy Elphick, commented: "This is another first for the gamma/L pump.

The gamma/ L was the first pump in its class to provide a direct readout of delivery volume, displayed in l/h or US gal/hour, and now it is the first to offer complete compatibility with profibus systems.

We felt it was essential that process systems integrators should be able to specify a pump that didn't need any complex interfacing.

Profibus compatibility offers a number of benefits.

Installation time is reduced and less wiring is required than for conventional point-to point systems.

To install the pump, a new slave is simply set up and a file added to the master control system.

The profibus address is set and the pump switched from "manual" to "auto".

The system is easy to control since all device information is held in the master, and detailed fault indication at the central control point allows more efficient maintenance.
