A major increase in demand for the company's automated lead pipe test rigs for monitoring lead levels in potable water has been announced by ProMinent Fluid Controls

A major increase in demand for the company's automated lead pipe test rigs for monitoring lead levels in potable water has been announced by ProMinent Fluid Controls In excess of 200 units have been ordered, with orders received from all but one of the 21 water companies and 10 water authorities in England Scotland and Wales, including Yorkshire Water, Thames Water, Hyder, and NWWA

To meet the demand, ProMinent has established a dedicated production line in its BS EN ISO9002 certified manufacturing facility in Ashby de la Zouch.

Over 70 units have been delivered to date.

The rig uses the routine 30-minute stagnation sampling method, although the flexible control system can specify any stagnation period.

It consists of a 3 metre length of new lead pipe complete with appropriate valves, flow meter and timer.

The design is in line with the recommendations of the DWI issued in Information Letter 2/1990, and a number of new features have been introduced into the production batches.

The only metal exposed to the water is the lead pipe itself to avoid galvanic action giving anomalous results.

Water-quality PVC fittings and plastic solenoid valves and flow meters are used throughout.

A plc control unit from Siemens is now included as standard.

ProMinent and WQM are also working with water authorities in Austria, Spain, Portugal and Belgium who are experiencing similar problems.
