Prominent Fluid Controls is supplying ten of its Orlita MfS precision dosing pumps with titanium liquid ends for the giant Kashagan oil-field project in Kazakhstan.

This is the largest oil deposit to be discovered in the past 40 years and the extreme climatic conditions, especially the extremely low temperatures, have placed rigorous demands on equipment to be used on site.

Eight standard Orlita MfS 18/7 pumps have been ordered, together with two duplex MfS 18/7 pumps.

These high performance pumps can operate at temperatures down to -40C and pressures up to 400bar and are manufactured in accordance with API675.

The hydrodynamic pump head features a double PTFE diaphragm to separate the wetted area from the hydraulic chamber.

Since the liquid to be pumped is a dilute hypochlorite solution, all parts in contact with the pumped fluid other than the diaphragm are manufactured from titanium.

The pumps offer extraordinary suction lift capability and a pumping accuracy of +0.5%.

Pressure relief automatic venting valves in the hydraulic chamber are provided for safety.

The Kashagan project features both offshore production and onshore processing facilities and the first crude oil from the field is expected in 2008.

When running to capacity, the field will provide the world's second largest production volume.
