Interface eases remote wireless links

Interface enables wireless P-Net communication links with remote stations by using the Internet and the public GPRS mobile phone network.

The new PD 664 P-Net GPRS interface from Proces-Data makes it possible to establish wireless P-Net communication links to remote stations by using the Internet and the public GPRS mobile phone network.

Such communication can be between one or a number of PCs, and one or more remote stations.

Each remote station, which may be stationary or mobile, must have a PD 664 and one or more other P-Net devices.

Using its built-in triple-band mobile phone, each PD 664 can establish a permanent point-to-point connection to a P-Net Gateway Service on a PC.

Via this connection, P-Net communication takes place between the remote stations and PCs connected to that service.

Communication through each point-to-point connection is encrypted.

The PD 664 is also able to send and receive SMS messages to or from mobile phones, or web based services.

Furthermore, it is possible to configure the device by sending it SMS messages.

Proces-Data provides a PC-based configuration tool for this.

The PD 664 can also be configured to send an SMS to a specific device, if connection to the P-Net Gateway Service has been lost, or if communication from the local P-Net master stops.

Application examples include remote control, data acquisition, alarming, diagnostics and maintenance in many different industries, such as milk collection trucks, pump stations for water supply or wastewater, or retail shop automation.
